Helen Zille did it that way so it works. It’s not going to happen for current mayor Dan Plato, but unlike Helen, Dan never got the Best Mayor In The Whole Wide World Award. I’m not saying he did a bad job, I’m just saying he didn’t get the award. And now his term is up. So who’s next? Some people say it’s Patricia De Lille.
Patricia De Lille breezed into DA ranks last year after a much publicised – and thoroughly same-sex – “marriage” between herself and Helen Zille. Now it looks like they’re taking their relationship to a whole new level, if that is even possible.
Political analysts believe Patricia De Lille will be elected as new Cape Town mayor this year and that this is but a small step in her rise to power for yes, she is being groomed as the next Western Cape Premier. Following the footsteps of her political wife, Helen Zille, who now actually becomes her mentor. Like any relationship it’s complicated.
Obviously the DA rubbished all this speculation and stated the electoral process will take its natural course. But who knows, maybe the analysts are onto something. I mean it’s what they do – they analyse.
If they are it means we can look forward to many more years – possibly eternity – of female rule in the Western Cape’s highest office. Hey, maybe we’re ready for even greater things. They’ve been leaving the seat up in Tuynhuys for far too long now.
