I’m not sure if you caught the live financial indicators on the right-hand side of the page, but the Rand is absolutely KILLING it against the US Dollar. At the current rate, I’m renting movies from the US iTunes store at R26 a shot – and some of them haven’t even hit the circuit here in SA. Let me show you how.
Quite simple, you need a US iTunes account, my love. And you can get one without having a US credit card – then you can buy and rent movies from iTunes, using your computer, iPad, iPhone or Apple TV. I use the Apple TV because it let’s you stream the movie. I choose something and, using my hi-speed MWEB uncapped broadband account, it loads faster than it plays – so you only have to wait a minute at the beginning before it starts!
You can rent a new-release movie for $3.99 (or $4.99 on HD) and you get 29 days to watch it and 24 hours to finish them, once you press play. That works out to R26. I just watched The Town with Ben Affleck and The American with George Clooney. The same two movies cost something like R42 PER PERSON at Nu Metro at the V&A Waterfront. And they were available on US iTunes WAY before the local cinema.
Don’t even get me started on the TV Series you can buy ($1 an episode) and the app store.. heavens..
Welcome to the future – it’s simpler (and cheaper) than ever before.
