Have you seen the entertainment line up for L’Ormarins Queens Plate VIP guests? It’s basically a joke. Look, it goes without saying that the Queens Plate is the most tasteful equine event staged in South Africa, a fact underlined by this year’s theme of “Timeless Elegance”. But that won’t stop us from enjoying a little heel-clicking when the time is right. Check this out – it’s insane!
From a little blue bird:
The VIP’s amongst the expected 8 000 racegoers can enjoy the atmosphere of luxury in their own private area within the exclusive Style Lounge Village. Uninterrupted views of the race track will be offered, along with a spread of tantalising cuisine and drinks- including headliner, Smirnoff Black. Guests will later enjoy a public concert featuring the talents of Louise Carver, Zebra and Giraffe, Locnville, Gazelle and Crazy White Boy.
Did you see that? Read it again.
Zebra and Giraffe, Locnville, Gazelle, and Crazy White Boy. Those are what we call “headline acts”. I for one will be choosing my dancing shoes very carefully. We don’t want to cause too much damage, now would we? No babes, we wouldn’t.
Add in to the equation that this is the 150th installment of the event, and that Pocket Power will be attempting a world record fifth consecutive victory of this race, and it all combines to be probably the best day of your year, and that’s a big call, because it’s happening in January.
As if the horses and other lovely creatures weren’t enough of a draw card, there’s also a vintage car collection on display, courtesy of the Franschoek Motor Museum (you’ll enjoy the 1922 Isotta Franschini), and Anthonij Rupert Wines.
Oh, one last thing. La Muse from Pop Ya Collar is judging the “Best Dressed” and “Best Hat” competitions. First prize awards include a tailor made dress from Abigail Betz and a three piece hat selection from Till Thembi – with L’Ormarins Wine, Billecart Salmon Champagne and Cartier Fragrance amongst other prizes. Shame.
Not sure if you know this, but La Muse also happens to be my personal fashion consultant, so if you ask me nicely, and maybe treat me gently, you might just get the inside track on those competitions…Maybe.
So there you are, my loves. Still your beating hearts, book your tickets.
