Anyways, so Procter and Gamble’s Gillette brand has decided Tiger is no longer the best a man can get. In fact he only has a week left to get as many free Gillette razors as he can – his current deal expires on New Year’s Eve.
Woods also lost deals with PepsiCo’s Gatorade, US telecom giant AT and T and consultancy firm Accenture, although other corporate sponsors such as Nike and EA Sports stood by him (we can rest assured we will see Tiger Woods 2012 on PS3 and Xbox360).
According to AFP, the men’s grooming company is phasing out its “Gillette Champions” marketing campaign in the first quarter of 2011, spokesperson Michael Norton said.
“The program was created in 2007 and like any brand, we refresh our marketing efforts to ensure they continue to be relevant for our consumers,” said Norton. He also confirmed that the company’s deal with Thierry Henry would also expire on December 31.
“The athletes’ contracts ran their full term,” Norton said.
The scary thing is not that Tiger has lost the reputation that once saw him the global corporate pin-up, but rather that he has just completed his first season without a victory. For those who were born yesterday, that’s any PGA Tour tournament.
On the bright side the Dubai Desert Classic takes place in February where one lucky amateur will stand the chance to compete alongside Tiger.
According to Sapa: “Anyone in the world with a “valid handicap” can register at www.golfindubai.org and the winner will be picked two weeks ahead of the February 9 tournament at the Emirates Golf Club. Men must have a handicap of 18 or below and women 26.”
Any takers? Hell, you’d be mad not to register. Oh and just for the record, avid 2oceansvibers will recall that we ran the “Tiger lodged at a Cape Town rehab clinic in the wake of scandalous reports about his private life” story first.
