England have had a fair few characters in their cricket team over the years. First there was Beefy Botham, then there was Freddie ‘caught pissed in a peddlar-boat’ Flintoff and now there’s Graeme ‘Swanny’ Swann. Apparently ‘a vote for Swanny is a vote for change’, which might well be true as he currently boasts over 116 000 followers on Twitter – pretty astounding for a sweaty off-spinner.
One thing is for sure though: the oke has bags of character. In his spare time away from cricket Swanny is a singer, filmmaker, professional street dancer and holder of the colonel’s secret recipe. Why, just a week ago he had this to tweet about: “Packing bags again. This time I went for the cram everything in, then jump on the lid till it kind of shuts technique. It was an epic battle.”
All you 2oceansvibers will be aware of what The Sprinkler is. You know, that dance where you bend one arm and bring it towards the other to your favourite Bee Gees track? Swanny made a plea to the fans of his tour diary to put together their best rendition of The Sprinkler. He received over 5000 videos in a week, which when you think about it, is pretty staggering.
Catch Swanny and his merry men do battle with the, so far, hapless Aussies in the 3rd Ashes test starting at 04:30 tomorrow morning. It’s actually a pretty awesome day for cricket, as Biff and the lads begin their test series against Gary Kirsten’s India at 10am. Should be lively.
