So summer’s here folks. I’m not sure if you’ve been noticing the incremental increase in temperature, the gradually lengthening days, the proliferation of billionaires on yachts off of Clifton – the usual tell tale indicators that a change has been effected in the seasons.
And you know what? Maybe, just maybe its time you learned to surf. You know you want to do it. All of the confident, self-assured people with lovely muscles just casually drop that old chestnut between a sip of beer and the turning of the sosaties.
“Ja, think a surf is on tomorrow.”
Then all of the surfers in the crowd break cover. You had no idea this many people in your social circle surfed. That’s the part of the night where you grin and say “Ja” a lot, trying to give off that knowing vibe without introducing any fatal words to the mix that may indicate you have no idea what you’re talking about.
That would be blind. Sosatie turning would be quiet. We don’t condone awkward here.
So here’s what you can do. You can learn to surf. It’s exercise, it’s fun, it’s quasi spiritual (“the oooocean, man”), and it is simply cooler than anything else you can do in the water. You can argue that point, body boarders, but you know in your hearts it’s the truth.
How are you going to learn to surf? Excellent question. It just so happens that we happen to know a great chap by the name of Ant, who runs Learn 2 Surf. Gosh that’s convenient.
Learn 2 Surf is holding four five-day surf courses at Muizenberg over the festive season. Check it out.
The five-day courses are R1250 each, which is a R500 saving on the usual price, and a small price to pay for lifelong fitness and improved social standing.
But if you’re not in Muizenberg these holidays, you can learn to surf in any one of these fine locations:
Check out the Learn 2 Surf website for more deets, peeps.
You get out there and have fun, you crazy kids. And remember: everybody’s free to wear sunscreen.
