Oh yes people, the McLaren MP4-12C is here. This supercar is what dreams are made of and it is definitely set to cause a stir in the performance stakes. It’s light, very light with even the engraved rather than raised lettering McLaren detail saving 2 g of weight!
The MP4-12C is powered by a mid-mounted twin-turbocharged V8 displacing 3,8-litres. This unit, dubbed M838T, produces 447 kW and 600 N.m of torque. It is mated with a seven-speed SSG (Seamless Shift Gearbox) dual-clutch automated manual transmission which features a Pre-Cog system that allows the driver to preselect the next gear via one of the paddle-shifters.
Ya, that might upset a few fans of the Porsche 911 Turbo S, the McLaren being lighter might make them feel a touch insecure.
Only 1000 units will produced in its first year of production and we will only see it on our roads at the end of 2011. So if you can afford a Ferrari 458 Italia or a Lamborghini Gallardo, then the R3 million – R3, 5 million that this will cost you shouldn’t be a problem.
