The internet is ablaze with this, ladies and gentlemen. And with very good reason.
I’ve been getting emails about this for a few days now and I’ll be honest, I ignored them all because I thought it was a hoax.
I mean, come the cuss on. It’s just honestly too spicy to actually be true.
First off, let me just say that I’ve never been there but I have it on good authority that there is very little to do in Canberra, Australia. In fact, my source (a genuine Australian) has referred to it simply as “shit”.
Having said that, there’s no excuse for getting drunk and taking pictures of your team-mate’s Labrador performing a sex act on you, as Canberra Raiders winger, Joel Monaghan did. I’ve given it a lot of thought and I can’t come up with a single scenario where that would be an appropriate course of action.
What started out as an alcohol-fuelled prank quickly spiralled out of control and made the inevitable leap to Twitter and the world.
Surprisingly, the Aussies are not so stoked with their star rugby player. My geniune Australian told me, “Aussies laugh at everything, but as soon as it involves a dog, that is a big no no. We love our dogs,” before adding, “more than kids.” The implications of that statement are immensely troubling .
Joel Monaghan has confirmed that he has been sacked from his R1.7 million position with the Canberra Raiders, saying:
“I accept total responsibility for what happened. It was a moment of madness, and while it was totally out of character, I have to cop the consequences. I’m disappointed that the photo was distributed, but I should never have put myself in that situation. It’s something I will have to live with for the rest of my life.”
If you’re interested in seeing the offending (and seriously NSFW) photo, first off, get yourself checked. Then pop over to Zero Tackle who have the original. (Seriously, don’t click that. I don’t even know why I linked to it).
