There are very few stories these days that leave me amazed. Especially when it comes to prison inmates. But my friend, Canonballblonde, assured me this would be worth a read. And what a story. A prisoner at Douglas Correctional Centre, Larry Joe will be released on December 13th 2010, the same day his album will be released.
That’s right, Larry has been in jail for just over 2 years and it that time he has written over 40 original songs in English, Afrikaans, Xhosa, Spanish and Portuguese in a single cell. How impressed are you?
Born and bred in the Northern Cape, Larry’s life’s journey took him down a tough road of crime that in turn led to his imprisonment after he handed himself over to the authorities in 2008. By December 2010, he will have served half of his 5 1/2 year sentence with the Parole Board having decided to grant him an early release for good behaviour.
Upon his release he will step straight onto a stage in the prison grounds to perform songs from his first solo album, Crazy Life. Marking the start of his new life as an artist and free man.
