In the prestigious race to be my favourite comedian of all time, it’s basically a two horse affair between Louis “Everything’s Amazing and Nobody’s Happy” CK and Zach “One Man Wolfpack” Galifianakis (the latter of whom sports my “goal beard”). Given the power that Galifianakis, until recently a virtually unknown standup comic, seemingly wields in Hollywood, I think he might just be taking the lead.
It was confirmed recently that Mel Gibson was given a cameo in the Hangover 2, playing an unhinged tattoo artist. It was then almost immediately announced that he had been dropped from the project.
The Hangover director, Todd Phillips, said:
“I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of [WB president] Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew.”
Could he be referring to recent comments made by Zach Galifianakis in an Comedy Death-Ray podcast where he mentioned:
“But a movie you’re acting in, you don’t have a lot of control — you just show up and vomit your lines out. I’m not the boss. I’m in a deep protest right now with a movie I’m working on, up in arms about something. But I can’t get the guys to [listen] … I’m not making any leeway.”
When the host of the podcast began to mention that Galifianakis was busy filming The Hangover sequel, he was cut off. “It has something to do with a movie I’m working on, yeah. I’ll tell you about it later. It’s very frustrating.”
Liam Neeson has supposedly already been lined up to replace Gibson.
