Car Surfing Gaining Traction

“Car surfing”, “ghost riding”, “skitching”. Just some of the terms used for what is becoming a rather deadly past time.

CBS reported on this hobby gaining traction amoungst teens in America. Riding on top of cars or on the side of cars with no one behind the wheel and riding a skateboard pulled by a moving vehicle has apparently resulted in injury and death.

According to a CDC report between 1990 and 2008, 58 people died in car surfing accidents alone. So that is like 3 people a year? Look, I’m not saying that I condone this activity, in fact it goes straight into the bin with beer funneling for me, but have you seen what our guys do?

American teens have obviously not seen how our fellow South Africans spend their free time, Train Surfing.

What I do think is a problem, is these kids posting their videos on YouTube. It can create quite a trend and you will always have the stupid few who get hurt and ruin it for the rest of the maniacs out there.

Evidently, these people do not agree with me, in fact they have compiled a selection of the best car surfing videos on the net. Check it out. Just know, I may have watched them, but I did not enjoy them…cough
