Lyrical wordsmith, voice of a generation and gay fish, Kanye West has confirmed on his Twitter page that the cover art for his upcoming album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, has mercifully been banned. Although at least one rapper has presumably described the cover as “the greatest album artwork of all time. OF ALL TIME!”
kanyewest Yoooo they banned my album cover!!!!! Ima tweet it in a few… kanyewest Banned in the USA!!! They don’t want me chilling on the couch with my phoenix! https://twitpic.com/2ykxjk kanyewest In the 70s album covers had actual nudity… It’s so funny that people forget that… Everything has been so commercialized now. kanyewest I know that cover just blew yall minds … I wish yall could see how hard I’m smiling right now!!! kanyewest In all honesty … I really don’t be thinking about Wal-Mart when I make my music or album covers #Kanyeshrug!
Literally, the greatest moment out of that impressive show has got to be his decision to create the #kanyeshrug hashtag. In what world is that ever going to catch on and start trending?
Then, displaying a worrying misunderstanding of the term “human being”, he tweets:
kanyewest So Nirvana can have a naked human being on they cover but I can’t have a PAINTING of a monster with no arms and a polka dot tail and wings
For those of you whose formative years didn’t overlap with the grunge era, the cover to which he could be referring to is the In Utero album cover, which features a transparent anatomical manikin.
My dear Kanye, transparent anatomical manikins are easily the least sexual thing you could possibly do with a mannequin. The most, obviously, being those mannequins that inexplicably have nipples.
A Google Images search for “mannequins with nipples”:
Just another in a long line of things I’d never had
to do before I started writing for 2oceansvibe
Either that or you’re referring to the Nevermind album cover which features a nude infant. In which case, you’ve got problems. Your album art, in contrast, features you sitting on your couch getting freaky with a mythical beast.
It’s unclear at the moment whether the album artwork has actually been banned by Wal-Mart, as the supermarket chain has yet to issue an official statement. Kanye has a history of overreacting and freaking out over nothing, so it’s possible that this is just another publicity stunt by the master of attention grabbing moves.
