The video that exploded across the internet last week, featuring Cebu Pacific air hostesses dancing the flight safety message on a flight to the tune of a Lady Gaga song, has now got a followup. And this time it’s the guys turn.
What do we all think about that? I’m on the fence, to be honest. On the one hand, you have to admire the balls it takes to come up with something so very different but on the other hand, what the hell guys? Air hostesses and stewards (or sky-waiters) have a very narrow remit and this goes way, way beyond that.
It’s a bit like when you’re sitting, doing your own thing at a restaurant and all of a sudden some overeager waitron in a bright orange jumpsuit starts pretending that he’s you’re New Best Friend just because you happen to be in his area. Respectfully, just get me my food and mind your own business, please. This might come as a bit of a surprise to you but I am not currently auditioning for new mates. Bonus points for not asking me how my meal is while I have a mouthful of food.
Also, and perhaps most importantly, Cebu Pacific, you are diluting the crucial safety measures which have been put in place for a reason. Clearly there are plenty of people who have never used a seatbelt, or who believe that the “brace” position will make a difference when their 400,000kg aeroplane falls 38,000 feet out of the sky, into solid, bone-crushing earth. Don’t cheapen the message for them.
