People in California are passionate about their weed. None apparently more so than Facebook and Napster co-founder, Sean Parker, who has donated $100,000 in support of California’s Proposition 19. Prop 19 being the controversial measure that Californians will vote on next month, which will decide whether or not to legalise marijuana.
Parker, who is played by Justin Timberlake in David Fincher’s The Social Network, donated the majority of the money to the Drug Policy Alliance.
DPA spokesman, Stephen Gutwillig, commented:
“What’s interesting here is that [Parker] is a member of the generation that really gets it. We think he’s pivotal to the future of drug policy reform in the country”
Surely it’s only a matter of time before South Africa follows suit? How much longer must we criminalise our hippies, surfers, actors, musicians, lawyers, new media professionals, university students, film-makers, sporting heroes, scientists, writers, anyone who has spent any amount of time in Cape Town or anyone who has ever gone to a Vortex before politicians realise the absurdity of this situation?
