It’s been widely speculated that the Sharks will play within themselves tomorrow night (after all they’re the only side certain of a home semi-final). They’re far more professional than that though. I would imagine that the Sharks would enjoy nothing more than denting Province’s ambitions even further tomorrow evening. The Durban-based group will fancy themselves against Province at the Tank in the semifinal, so that scenario will certainly be on their agenda should Province end the day in fourth.
The Sharks are a physically dominant side, particularly in the front row, with Beast, Bismarck and Jannie du Plessis all seasoned Springboks. It’s going to take an almighty effort from JD Moller, Deon Fourie and Brok Harris to out-scrum that trio. Duane Vermeulen has been as resolute and robust as ever this season and I look forward to an intriguing subplot between himself and Ryan Kankowski.
With the Cheetahs and Bulls looking certain for victories against the Leopards and Griquas respectively, the onus is on Province to show some mettle and put on a show. With no silverware since 2001, they certainly owe it to the Newlands faithful.
