In January 2009, Steve Ballmer personally assured all Microsoft employees that there would be no layoffs during the recession. A heart-warming, albeit interesting angle, considering he announced only days later, that in spite of $64 billion in profits the previous year, there would, in fact, be 5,000 layoffs globally.
This corporate deception, taken along with the recent catastrophic failure of the Kin, Ballmer’s massive bonus penalties for sizeable losses in the mobile market and in particular, this Youtube video, make watching him fail in the web browser market, traditionally one of Microsoft’s strongest fronts, all the more delicious.
I’m going to go ahead and assume that no one reading this article is doing so using Internet Explorer. Of course you aren’t because 2oceansvibe readers display a savvy confidence that just screams, “I already know that every other browser out-performs Explorer in almost every way”.
It’s just that what we’ve known as fact for years is only now being regarded as official.
While more capable browsers, like Chrome & Firefox have shown incredible growth recently, Explorer has suffered a market share drop of over 10%, year on year, putting it at 49.87%, the first time it’s dipped below 50% in its history.
