Since suffering a monumental loss of form for his adopted, beloved, esteemed, most highly regarded homeland, England, Kevin “KP” Pietersen has made a rather quiet return to KwaZulu-Natal – the land from whence he first spawned.
That’s understandable, I hear you say. Sometimes all you need to get your head back in the game is a good sleep in your own bed, a braai with the family, and some warm milk with cinnamon from mom in the morning.
Well, yes, but it turns out he’s actually back in KZN to play the odd spot of cricket (not the garden variety).
Johannesburg – Cricket South Africa has approved a request from the Dolphins for Kevin Pietersen to play two games for his former team next month.
The South African-born England batsman will play for the Durban-based Dolphins in two four-day games in the domestic SuperSport Series in a bid to regain his form ahead of the Ashes series in Australia.
He will play against the Warriors from October 7-10 and against the Titans from October 14-17.
Oh. I see. So, our provincial sides are quite happy to oust local players from their playing spots in the team for a foreigner (yes, he IS a foreigner, don’t get me started on this) whose presence won’t add any long term value to the team whatsoever?
Nice vibe there, Dolphins. I see your website makes it pretty plain that you’re keen on local player development. Well, all right then.
What’s more, the record will show that the only times Pietersen ever played for the Dolphins were points in his career when no national team would touch him with a barge pole.
