If you have a taste for sushi and other good food, and you haven’t tried ceviche, you simply must.
Ceviche, for those of you who are uninformed, is a dish of unknown hispanic origin comprised of thinly sliced raw white fish, which is subsequently “cooked” in a thin bath of lemon juice, or a similar organic acid.
And it’s frikkin DELICIOUS.
Anyhow, the Johannesburg vibers better get used to Ceviche, because you’ve got about 18 months before you’re all lounging in an acid bath, slowly pickling.
Oh you didn’t know? Keep reading.
After 120 years of deep mineral extraction in the Great Rand of South Africa, the abandoned portions of our famously-deep mine shafts are reaching maximum rainwater collection capacity.
Well, it’ll just spill out once the water levels rise to the top, how’s that a bad thing?
As it happens, environmental standards weren’t very high 120 years ago, and they’re not likely to be strictly enforced now that we have them on paper. In short, our mines are pumped full of acid chemicals that dissolve in water. So when water meets chemical, you have acid water. At least that’s what the environmental brains say:
She said the rising mine water had the same acidity as vinegar or lemon juice, and was a legacy of 120 years of gold mining in the region.
So there we have it, Joburg’s about to be flooded by kilolitres of lemon juice concentrate.
But don’t worry, our GOVERNMENT will do something about this, surely?
On stopping the growing threat below Johannesburg, Keet said about R220-million was needed to establish pump stations, pipelines and treatment works.
Responding to a question, he said there were plans to tackle the problem.
“The idea is to build a pump station; the challenge is where the money will come from,” he said.
I’m sorry, you’ve got a plan, but you’re wondering where the money will come from?
Well gee, chaps. We’ve got lots of big holes in the ground, pumped full of chemicals. Hell, it must be the floral industry must be responsible. Damned fertiliser cowboy bastards!
Enjoy the ceviche, Jozi vibers.
