If there ever was a brand that has always been around the block, it’s Wimpy. Waves of nostalgia and memories of road-trips to Plett enter my mind, with me servicing my dad a fresh cold beer every couple of hours and a glass (real glass – plastic gives her Ladyship moth ulcers) of wine (with ice) for my mom from the back seat cooler box. We certainly don’t condone it, but let’s face it, drinking and driving was a national pastime in those days!
“How much longer!!” I would cry.
“When the mileage guage says 22,000km then we will be there,” would come the reply (which was always a lie to get me to settle in). Didn’t have Gameboy then – I just used to daydream about models and Airwolf.
We recently posted an article on 2oceansvibe about Wimpy’s old menus which shows the very same meals they’re serving today, albeit with a slightly outdated price list!
And now I see this new vibe – it looks like Wimpy are online baby!
With a sick new competition! Click the link and play the breakfast game – it’s hysterical!
They’ve got an online game which times you to serve breakfast to a whole bunch of people. And the best times win all sorts of prizes, including iPod’s and a 42″ LCD TV!
Check it out:
Wimpi! uLekker breakfast!
We’ve all seen the hilarious Wimpy parody of Johnny Clegg’s infamous Impi song on TV by now. You know the one, a bunch of guys from Krugersdorp in their pyjamas, shorts and T-shirts doing an improv Zulu dance at the crack of dawn. In broken chorus, they sing the praises of the Wimpy National Breakfast: bacon, boerie and eggs over-easy. Not for laities or for sissies!
If you haven’t, where have you been, China?
Now there’s a microsite extolling the virtues of the Wimpy National Breakfast: featuring the ad itself, a ‘making of’ video featuring the manne from the ad, and a flash game with great prizes. There are daily Wimpy Gift Cards, 6 iPod Nanos and a 42” LCD TV up for grabs. The play is an old-school keep-‘em-fed game, where you have to serve the Wimpy National Breakfast to the hungry guys from the ad. It’s simple. It’s fun. And it’s completely free.
This latest addition to Wimpy’s light-hearted approach to some of the more obscure elements of our mixed South African heritage (remember the Skoltimaiers?) continues to keep us smiling. Their off-the-wall attitude to their marketing continues to differentiate Wimpy with the kind of warmth and magic that makes them inimitably South African, loved by all, and the restaurant brand to beat.
Get there NOW and win those cool awesome prizes!
