Dennis Hopper Is Dead – The hellraising Hollywood actor and director best known for his wild roles in Easy Rider, Blue Velvet and Apocalypse Now, died yesterday at the age of 74 after a battle with prostate cancer. Despite bitter disputes with his wife in recent months, the actor died at his home in the Los Angeles beachside district of Venice, surrounded by his “nearest and dearest”, according to friends. BP’s “Top Kill” Vibe Fails – Barack Obama commented after BP officials reached the disappointing conclusion that a dayslong effort to stop the flow of oil, known as a “top kill,” by packing the well with mud had failed. Malawi Leader Pardons Jailed Gay Couple – Malawi’s president says he has pardoned and ordered the release of a jailed gay couple sentenced to 14 years in prison.
