I simply cannot carry on much longer without doing a post about this goddamn volcano. When I first heard about it I thought I would tip-toe around the issue and wait for it to go away. But then it got worse. Then flights were cancelled. Then everyone was talking about it. Then my own friends got stuck at airports because of it. And now, even I am concerned, as I leave for Provence in a week (*cough* for a month)! Yes, I know it will be gone in a week, but I feel like being dramatic and joining in the fun.
Anyway, the volcano’s name is Eyjafjallajokull (no spice), which is virtually exactly the same spelling as the words that come out if you are testing if your keyboard works and you hit some random keys. Try it out – just go mad on the keyboard and you’ll see it is virtually the same. I’ll do it for you now:
Ejhskjdhgkjsdhgkjdhsg
See? Virtually exactly the same!
So one of our intrepid 2oceansvibers out there sent a link to the most stunning pics of the volcano – erupting, as well as surrounding areas completely covered in the ash. They really are phenomenal images!
So here are my favourite two pics of the Ekjsdfhgvkjadhg volcano!

The volcano in southern Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull glacier sends ash into the air just prior to sunset ON Friday, April 16, 2010. Thick drifts of volcanic ash blanketed parts of rural Iceland on Friday as a vast, invisible plume of grit drifted over Europe, emptying the skies of planes and sending hundreds of thousands in search of hotel rooms, train tickets or rental cars. Unreal.

Then, when you’re done with that, check out THIS volcano!
Now we’re talking!
[thanks nick]
ps. don’t you just love how, over a few decades, modern media gradually teaches the man on the street about natural disasters? Ten years ago hardly anyone knew what a tsunami was – now it’s used in punchlines. Another new word/concept was xenophobia – everyone is suddenly an expert. But if you mentioned the word five years ago you would have been sent to a special home. Now we’ve got a volcano in Iceland, which has halted earth’s air travel. Hilarious. So primitive! I LOVE IT!
