Cyclist gets on plane “dripping with sweat”
after riding the Argus Cycle Tour
Cyclist Hygiene Making Headlines Again – It seems the public’s dislike for a select few cyclist’s lack of manners, etiquette and disregard for the law, reached fever pitch yesterday, as the whole world descended upon Cape Town for the Argus Cycle Tour. Labeling them “prawns” (from District 9) one blog got particularly wound up, as he witnessed a cyclist getting on the plane in full cycling gear, after the race, having not showered. Apparently “dripping with sweat”. Fucking disgusting. [blarerich]
The Final Word On Modern-Day Telephone Etiquette – I wrote a guest column for local blog That’s How It Is and took the opportunity to give a defining set of rules and explanations regarding how and why today’s technological advancements should be properly embraced. In particular, with regards to the telephone and general communication. A wonderful place to send the detractors intent on stopping you from living the holiday. [thatshowitis]
Tommy Hilfiger Talks About His Brawl With Axl Rose – Designer Tommy Hilfiger has finally spoken about his notorious fight with Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose in 2006 – and, perhaps unsurprisingly, Hilfiger says it wasn’t his fault. The designer insists that throwing the first punch was, in actual fact, self defence – and that the unlikely duo are firm friends now. Oh for God’s sake, Tommy, don’t be so boring! [vogue]
The Vatican’s Sex Cover-up – Europe is now being wracked by fresh priest-abuse scandals, much like the United States was 10 years ago. In Germany, widespread sexual abuse of children in Catholic schools was exposed, including at a choir school that was run for three decades by Rev. Georg Ratzinger, the brother of Pope Benedict XVI. The Catholic Church aided and abetted the offenders, as the sex-scandal drumbeat approaches cacophony. [dailybeast]
BBC Slashing Out £1m On World Cup Studio in Cape Town – Given the choice between a shabby former mining district or a studio with stunning views of Table Mountain, it is easy to see why the BBC plumped for the latter. But the corporation’s decision to build a lavish, pentagon-shaped glass studio in Cape Town – almost 1,000 miles from the logistical centre of the Word Cup in South Africa – has raised some eyebrows. Microsoft Workers Disguise Their iPhones – Microsoft Corp. employees are passionate users of the latest tech toys. The iPhone is made, of course, by Microsoft’s longtime rival, Apple Inc. and the device’s success is a nagging reminder for Microsoft executives of how the company’s own efforts to compete in the mobile business have fallen short in recent years. What is especially painful is that many of Microsoft’s own employees are nuts for the device. [wallstreetjournal]
Chavez Wants The Internet Regulated… Obviously – Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called for regulation of the Internet on Saturday while demanding authorities crack down on a critical news Web site that he accused of spreading false information. In a televised speech, Chavez said: “The Internet can’t be something free where anything can be done and said. No, every country has to impose its rules and regulations,” Chavez said. [msnbc]
Sarkozy Upset With David Cameron For Calling Him a Dwarf – The Conservative leader is said to have made a remark about “hidden dwarfs” whilst discussing a photograph of himself and Mr Sarkozy, who is seven inches shorter than him. The diminutive Sarkozy, who is 5ft 5in, is understood to have made an official complaint to the British government. One wonders if he would have preferred “midget?” Or “Stompie?” [telegraph]
Alonso Wins Bahrain F1 Grand Prix – Ferrari finished one-two at the Bahrain Grand Prix as former world champion Fernando Alonso took first place in his race debut for the Italian team, beating team-mate Felipe Massa into second place. Lewis Hamilton finished third and 76-time World champion, Michael Schumacher, finished sixth. This was Michael’s first race after having “retired” in 2006. [timeslive]
Google CEO Can’t Keep His Ex-Mistress’s Blog Down – Video producer Kate Bohner has re-published her autobiographical blog, just two weeks after taking it offline amid threats from Eric Schmidt’s lawyers. There’s been one especially noticeable change: the character “Dr. Strangelove” is gone. What, exactly, is going on here? [valleywag]
Order Your Own Unique Aston Martin – Speaking to AutoExpress at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, Aston Martin design director Marek Reichman said that he wants to set a new standard for personalization of Aston vehicles. The aim is to form a team of engineers that would be able to make any of your dreams come true. Cool, how about you send me the One-77 with denim interior?[luxuo]
Space Law Course To Tackle Final Frontier – Would-be lawyers at a British university are taking a lesson from the Starship Enterprise and boldly going into the potential legal conundra of outer space. For the first time in a UK syllabus, a module on law and the legal system beyond Earth’s atmosphere will be included as an option for students starting at Sunderland University in September. Paris Hilton Sunbathing Topless – It’s been a while since the founder of the car-exit-crotch-shot gave us some fodder. This time, Princess Paris Hilton did some topless sunbathing in Mexico! Hilton lovers and haters alike will probably do the right thing and follow this link. NSFW. [superficial]
Interview With Groove Armada: Re-made/Re-modelled – Groove Armada have marred the memories of many a married couple but have Olympian plans to repent for that in 2012. Q met Tom Findlay on the day of their new album’s release for a chat as industriously efficient as the ’80s sound that inspired their change of direction. [qmagazine]
