I don’t need to remind you about South Africa’s premiere social event happening on Saturday – the annual L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Horse Race at Kenilworth Race Course in Cape Town. And if you haven’t got your ducks in a row, best you pop down to Computicket right now to secure your tickets.
Rather I should be telling you about the L’Ormarins Moment photographic competition which takes place on the day at the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate. The competition is open to all photographers, both amateur and professional and features one of the most awesome prizes you could dream of.
CLICK HERE to see the finalists from last year. I think I even feature in the one. Check out the one by Verster-Cohen.
Here’s the vibe:
Chance and skill will have to be combined in order to capture the winning image and the photograph which most accurately summarises this elegant day will win. From grab shots of the competing horses to social spreads any subject will be acceptable for entry. The submission phase for the photographs takes place between 9 January 2010 and 17 January 2010 and the images must have been taken at the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate 2010 event.
The lucky winner receives a LEICA D-Lux 4 camera.
The LEICA D-Lux 4
The L’Ormarins Moment was initially started by the event organizers as they decided to align the LQP with art rather than fashion. Photography is one of the most accessible forms of art.
Registration to the competition is now open via the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate website (www.lqp.co.za). The registration fee to enter the L’Ormarins Moment is R30 for 3 entries.
Judges will be looking for an image that conveys a story, captures the moment – that precise point in a photograph where an action achieves its climax. The blue and white dress code should be highlighted and the overall image should convey the elegance of the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate.
All profits resulting from the sale of the medium will be donated to the Carthorse Foundation and the Montrose Foundation.
For more information go to www.lqp.co.za.
That’s a R15,000 camera right there, my friends. For those of you who don’t know, Leica is regarded by many to be the world’s finest camera.
