I’ve always got time for has-been seasoned professionals of the game. It’s those conversations that start with ‘I remember the time’ that trigger something in my brain which puts me into nostalgia mode. That’s the mode where the little leprechauns in my head pull up small ottomans closer to their leprechaun-sized couches and kick back with leprechaun-sized gin and tonics. It’s a happy place.

Sometimes the stories are bland and usually end up with the leprechauns passing out from too many G&Ts. This usually happens when I’m trapped in a conversation with an ex-player-turned-commentator. But sometimes you meet an ex-player like Christian Stewart, a commentator of a different sort. This is when the leprechauns stay awake, but a tiny bit of drool accumulates on the edge of their lower lip.
