SA #1 and future World Surf Champion, Jordy Smith , gives us another reason to like his vibe.
He’s obviously got TONS of surfboards in his “quiver,” but I did not realise that each of his boards has a girl painted it. A different girl for every board. He doesn’t call them his “boards,” he calls them his “ladies.”
I like that.

It’s been more than ten years now since Kelly Slater showed up on the North Shore with a batch of Merricks adorned with cartoon females. It made quite a stir at the time, and proving that the more things change the more they stay the same, this winter Jordy Smith arrived with a 22-board, cougar-hunting quiver. “They’re my ladies,” he joked this week. “Nobody’s really done it since Kelly, and I thought it would be kind of funny.” Funny or perverse, one can’t argue that Jordy’s quiver is turning a lot of heads.
The last time Jordy impressed us was when he kept it local, signing autographs and and hanging out with the crew at the Kommetjie Surf Shop – an institution amongst Cape Town’s surf fraternity.
