I honestly didn’t think I would ever be getting excited about an afrikaans rapper coming to Cape Town. But hey, look at global warming” – things change..
The uninitiated may want to check out the article we did on SA superstar Jack Parow a short while back. The guy has basically exploded onto the local music scene and the rollercoaster success of his single “Cooler As Ekke” certainly didn’t hurt! Click here to see the music video. Easily one of the top songs to come out of SA in the last year – one of the most amusing too!
BangersAndNash nailed it when they highlighted the lyrics which were maiing Jack Parow a hit even amongst the spoilt Southern Suburbs english-speaking kids:
My naam is Parow, dik heavy uit geskollie
Jy lyk soos Jeremy de Tollie
Jack Parow die life van die party
Jy dra net uh uh Issy Miyake
Jy’s too cool for school, ek’s mos kief
Ek’s Grasshopper, jy’s Le coq sportif
Jy laat die koek flop, ek laat die huis rys
Jou meisie het ‘n foto van my piel op haar space case
The guys has even been on TaxiJam…
And now he is coming to Cape Town. But I’ll tell you something else – he is not coming alone. Oh no. Believe you me, there is so much MORE…
One of the biggest parties of the year. FACT.
Yes, you read that correctly – The Wedding DJ’s will be there as well. If you don’t know who the Wedding DJ’s are, you OBVIOUSLY didn’t go to the “King’s of Neon” party held at Caprice a few weeks ago which was one of the most talked about parties in Caprice history. TRUST ME when I tell you that the party was off.the.charts. We left at about 3am and everyone who went cannot stop talking about the music – spun by none other than The Wedding DJ’s. They’re brilliant, they’re hilarious and they’re genius. And, just for spice, they’re sponsored by Steri-Stumpie..
I tried to personally book them for something I was thinking about and they were so booked up it became embarrassing.
But, because they roll amongst the afrikaans musiek cool-list, they seem to be available on Saturday night at The Assembly. Probably because Jack Parow is there. And almost definitely because “Die Heuwels Fantasties” are there.
Die Heuwels Fantasties is Hunter Kennedy (aKING & Fokofpolisiekar) and Pierre Greeff’s (Lukraaketaar) electronic music project. Johnny de Ridder (Fokofpolisiekar) is in charge of producing the music. Check them out HERE as they sing with the Soweto Gospel Choir.
I cannot tell you what an incredible party will be taking place on Saturday night at The Assembly in Cape Town. English, Afrikaans, Black, White and Cape Spanish will unite as one, like never before. It’s be like the 1995 World Cup, only better.
This is huge.
This is a defining moment for Cape Town.
Be there.
