I wasn’t really sure what to expect when I visited the Reddam House Grade 7’s yesterday at 08h45. That will probably explain why I was tweeting you so many awesome photographs (here and here) this morning as I made my way from The Safe House to Reddam House Private School in Sea Point.
Reddam House Private School
Sea Point, Cape Town
I first poked my nose into the High School and realised the kids were too old. So I waltzed down to the primary school where the class teacher, Kim, met me and guided me to the classroom as kids sprinted in random directions as far as the eye could see, like some kind of molecular science experiment.
I was still in Twitter mode from my scooter ride to Reddam and, once the frame had cleared of kids, I took this shot of their field which, from what I could see, was made of some kind of incredibly hard-core astro-turf or something.
Very impressive, I must say.

That would be the last pic I would ever take at Reddam House, as it dawned on me that I was a 30 year old man holding a camera, aimed towards an area teeming with pre-pubescent children. With the realisation that recent online images showed me sporting a questionable moustache, the vibe in general was not ideal to say the least.
The chat with the kids (co-ed) was great fun and, as an insight into how education has changed since “my day,” I was completely knocked out by the understanding and matureness they had when it came to question time. The subject was “marketing, money management and entrepreneurship” which was impressive enough, but they weren’t shy to ask things like, “in terms of your sponsors and advertisers, do they generally approach you? Or vice versa?”
No spice.
A hot topic was, “how do I start my own blog” and I am proud to announce that two of the girls emailed me while I have been writing this article and they have ALREADY started their very own mini-2oceansvibe for the early teens.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Chloe and Sabina’s blog, called “2 and 2 is 7” !!! You can check it out following that link or, in future, just go to https://2and2is7.blogspot.com
It’s quite funny that they also mentioned the grass on the school field in one of their first few articles. Although it doesn’t seem that they’re not as impressed with it as I am..
Well done, girls – keep it up.
And well done to Reddam. Coming from someone with both public and private school education, I can tell you that you should be very proud!
