I got the first season of Mad Men out from DVD Nouveau and took it back to The Muse ‘s place on Saturday arvee. I popped it into her DVD player and a message came on the screen telling me “CANNOT PLAY DVD’S FROM THIS REGION.” Which is amazing, given that the lying bastards at Caldis on Long Street (where I bought it) told me it could play all regions.
The Samsung P-191
Naughty
So I drove BACK to DVD Nouveau and asked for something else. My buddy behind the counter told me to take the DVD’s straight back to The Muse’s place and to get on the so-called “internet” and search for the DVD make (mine was Samsung) and model number (on the back), followed by the words “region free code.”
I wasn’t convinced but took them out again, with a back-up DVD, just in case (I got The Princess Bride, recommended to me by The Comedian, Cokey Falkow).
I returned to the DVD player in question and opened my lappie next to it. Then I searched Google for “samsung dvd-p191 region free code.”
I got this website which provided the following instructions:
samsung dvd p191 change region to region free
turn on dvd
with no disc in tray press repeat (not repeat a-b)
press fast forward
press fast rewind
press fast forward
press up
press down9 should appear in top left corner.
That’s exactly what I did and I can confirm that I went on to watch Mad Men quite happily. I only had to do it once and my DVD player is now unlocked!
So that website was called www.fixya.com and there are more like www.dvdexploder.com (how crazy is that web name?) and www.regioncodefreedvd.com, but if you can’t find your vibe there, just search in Google like I did.
Welcome to your new life.
Don’t thank me – thank the gang at DVD Nouveau..
