Wow, it’s all happening! For those of you who have just tuned in, ex security guard and Springbok rugby captain, Joost van der Westhuizen, was recently involved with a stripper in a hidden sex tape cocaine scandal. Or, should I say, “skandaal!” You can check out our past coverage on that here, but today we’re chatting about something else – his wife.
Amor Vittone has decided to “tell all” and agreed to a cover story interview with Marie Claire magazine.
Amor Vittone on the cover of the latest Marie Claire
Hmm, let’s have a look at that press release:
Amor takes a stand on Marie Claire cover
Marie Claire publishes first in-depth interview with Amor Vittone who also appears on the cover of the July issue.
The Joostgate video scandal dominated the press when it broke earlier this year – and now, in the July issue of Marie Claire, Amor Vittone gives her most in-depth interview yet to editor, Kate Wilson sharing details of the story that have never made it into print before.
Amor posed for Marie Claire in an exclusive cover and fashion shoot, and shared personal photographs from her childhood and marriage to Joost van der Westhuizen for the feature ‘Taking the bull by the horns.’
Wilson says, “We decided to interview Amor and put her for the cover because right now, she is a woman under fire for making the decision to believe her husband’s version of events and Marie Claire is a magazine that champions women’s right to make their own choices, public or personal. Regardless of the truth of the allegations, her story will resonate with other women.”
In a country without a real celebrity culture, the South African public tuned into the Joostgate “updates” with unprecedented fervour, prompting Marie Claire to investigate the events and the press coverage on a more critical level.
“It was obvious from the huge public reaction that South Africa really cares about this couple,” adds Wilson. “We wanted to examine that relationship in the context of the media frenzy. Rugby and Afrikaans music are two entertainment categories with a loyal and passionate following in this country and the so-called ‘celebrities’ who belong to them have to surrender a certain level of privacy. We wanted to look at whether this is really justified in an SA context.” The analysis of pop culture and the public’s relationship to celebrities is a recurring subject in Marie Claire.
“Marie Claire looks at all kinds of issues affecting women – and that doesn’t have to mean domestic violence or breast cancer,” says Wilson. “Infidelity is something many women fear in their relationships and this was an opportunity to look at how one woman in the public eye is dealing with this kind of uncertainty. This is also a magazine that celebrates strong women, and having met her, Amor strikes me as incredibly strong.”
The July issue of Marie Claire magazine is now available at leading retailers and bookstores countrywide.
Did you catch the name of the actual story? “Taking the bull by the horns” – I’ll be honest, I love it.
Hmm, very interesting. I just hope Amor isn’t still dealing with the “uncertainty.” I mean, you’d think by now things are pretty certain? You know, now that everyone has seen it and agrees unanimously that it WAS Joost in the tape? That, and the fact that the stripper, Marilize Emmenis, has come forward and confirmed everything and been in FHM shoots etc.
Either way, it’s going to be an interesting interview. We don’t get the South African Marie Claire here in the South of France so those of you manage to get a copy before it sells out, let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
Marie Claire, I’d appreciate it if you could drop off a copy at the Cape Royale Hotel concierge for me to squizz upon my return? Thanks, my darlings.
