One of the down sides about having Google AdSense ads displayed on one’s website is they have a mind of their own. And by “down” sides, I mean “hilarious” sides. How Google AdSense works, is the code which produces the ad actually reads your webpage and will publish an ad depending on the content – hopefully then keeping within the theme of the website.

Like during the elections the ad space on 2oceansvibe was suddenly filled with ads for Helen “Cougar” Zille and the DA – as it (Google AdSense) had read through the website and noticed keywords to do with “South Africa” and “general elections” which would have been highlighted by the DA as the kind of content they wish to have their ads shown alongside. The fact that the articles I was publishing at the time had to do with Helen standing me up (here), is besides the point.

So, anyway, following that rather tiresome crash-course in how Google AdSense works; some of you will remember the article I wrote the other day about Alec Baldwin being in the dwang with the Philippine government over a joke he made about getting a Filipina mail-order bride (here). I went as far as showing you a pic of a Filipina mail-order bride I found and, in a bid to further humour you, even provided you with a link to said online facility.

Well, that article clearly had enough keywords for one of Google’s advertisers, (yup, you guessed it) a Filipina bride dating service to have their ads displayed in the very same spot as Helen Zille a few weeks earlier.

It’s probably still there now (and will continue to be until THIS equally keyword-riddled article also disappears!) but, just in case, enjoy this:
