Wow, there was definitely no getting out of this one! After my incredibly naive pre-Blog Awards pledge video where I promised (should I win) to ride my scooter along the Camps Bay strip in a leopard print thong (emphasis on “strip!”), there was no end to the sms’s, emails and tweets asking “hey dude, what about the thong ride?” There certainly were some sleepless nights and I’m sure it didn’t help that the video had been watched 37,000 times – here.
And so it has come to pass that I shall do as I said..
So here it is..
The kind people at Woolworths JT1 carefully selected a stunning little number for me (which I am yet to try on)!
Please enjoy..
Maybe this was a bad idea?
Gorgeous little thing, don’t you think?
So, ja, the date will be the day of the vote, 22 April. The reason I chose that date is so that it can take place alongside The Earth Day Scooter Rally which you are all invited to join.
Check out the following info for the rally, as well as my plan below that.
Those of you who HAVE scooters (or can get hold of one) should come and join us. It’s to raise awareness for scooters in general and how perfect they are for Cape Town, let alone the environment. Check it out:
Cape Town’s rolling rally for Earth Day 2009
Local scooter enthusiasts ride to recognise planet-friendly transport alternatives
On April 22, some Capetonians will do more than just vote. In honour of Earth Day – a global event to highlight humankind’s impact on the environment – local scooter commuters will ride to raise awareness of two-wheel vehicles as planet-friendly car alternatives.
Who: Local scooter riders (and their friends)
Where: The ride starts at the Caltex service station in the V&A Waterfront and ends at the Speedway Cafe, 105 Hope St, Gardens
When: 11:30am for 12:00pm (gives you enough time to vote)
How: Join us for the ride and a pub lunch at the end of the ride, including some cold Jack Black beer on tap.
Why: – Recognise scooters as planet-friendly car alternatives.
The route
Dock Road (V&A Waterfront, Green Point, Sea Point, Camps Bay, Kloof Nek, Roeland and Hope Street (Gardens).
“No matter what brand of scooter you ride or how old it is, join us before or after voting for a bit of fun and a great cause,†says Andrew Cole, president of Hi-Five, a facebook-based group of local scooter enthusiasts. “Participants are encouraged to offset their carbon footprint by purchasing a tree on Food and Trees for Africa’s website.â€Â

Pretty rad.
Except if you’re in a leopard print thong..
Because I can’t drive with, and then against the scooter rally traffic, I’m going to change my pledge ever so slightly (trust me it’s worse). I will be compensating for not doing a double lap of The Camps Bay strip by wearing my thong ALL THE WAY FROM BANTRY BAY, through Clifton, past La Med and all along the Camps Bay Strip.
I should be coming past Caprice somewhere between 12h15 and 13h00 if you MUST watch the spectacle. And don’t worry, I’ll be hooting so you won’t miss me.
Better yet, join us on the ride and get a high res view of it all!
And if that’s not enough the whole thing will be filmed, for your viewing pleasure on 2oceansvibe TV (www.2oceansvibe.tv or link from 2oceansvibe).
