Whoah, there hasn’t been an auction on the Camps Bay strip since the place next door to Caprice, now occupied by The Grand Cafe, went for around R40 million sometime last year.

And now, the highly sought after building on the other side of The Grand Cafe is going under the hammer. I spotted them putting up the sign this morning as I dried off my glistening torso, following my morning swim in the mighty Atlantic Ocean.

Years of investments and successes and failures has proven that this end of the Camps Bay Strip (“Westside”) is in another league of cool, compared to the other end (“Eastside”). There are a number of contributing factors, not least of which being the fact that they (the Westside shop fronts) don’t have a view of the taxi rank and public toilets over the road.

That’s why, a few years ago, someone asked me what I think the three most important things are about buying real estate. I thought about it for a while and it became clear. So I said unto them, “location, location, location” – because, honestly, I think that is the most important thing.

Since then I’ve found a lot of people using this saying that I made up and I urge you to do the same, because I believe it’s true.

This is prime real estate and I wouldn’t be surprised it got a similar price to its neighbour, what with 2010 around the corner blah, blah, etc. etc.
