It was a couple months back that the Interior Decorator told me that I “simply HAVE to visit DVD Nouveau” on Bree Street in Cape Town. She told me about their incredible selection of DVD’s for rent, including every series and all the classics. I looked for the shop, but I couldn’t find it and gave up.

Then I tried one more time and spotted it next door to Boss Models, in a little yellow building, 166 Bree Street, near the four-way stop.

As Cape Town DVD rental stores and DVD shops in Cape Town go, this is, without doubt, the best there is. The Interior decorator was 100% spot on when she mentioned the range found at DVD Nouveau. Two examples should be enough for you. 1 – they have all four seasons of Entourage and 2 – they even have the classic 11 minute short, Dinner for One. You might remember Dinner for One was that black and white production that used to run every New Year on SABC. The one with the butler who gets absolutely smashed whilst serving the lady of the house and her imaginary guests. The quote “the same procedure as every year, James,” and his tripping over the animal head on the carpet might be a couple of highlights that tweak your memory.

Honestly, there hasn’t been one movie that I have tried to rent that they didn’t have. This weekend’s random request for the Dreyfuss/Midler/Nolte classic Down and Out in Beverly Hills was too easy for them. This morning I rented the box set of Louis Theroux interviews. You don’t know who Louis Theroux is? Get it. Trust me.

An old converted home, the DVD rental shop sports four separate rooms, each showcasing a different theme/genre of DVD to rent; with everything from latest releases, to foreign films, documentaries, comedy etc. The little sofa’s and chandeliers are TO DIE FOR!

So there is not much more I can tell you about this gorgeous little find, other than you need to get your ass there ASAP. Oh, there is one more thing – all DVD’s (except new releases) have a TWO DAY return policy! That’s right, you only have to return them after two days. Pretty cool!

The new Woolworths popcorn comes in its own box! So, unlike the other brands out there (sis!) you can eat the popcorn from the container you made it in. And it’s so much fun to operate! Like a popup book, the Woolworths popcorn comes in a flattened box, and you simply pull the two little tags outwards and *POP* the box stands to attention – ready for some microwave action!
