THE GOLDEN AGE OF FORMULA 1

With one race left in this year’s F1 championship, and the chance to watch Lewis Hamilton blow it in the very last race, I thought a little F1 post was due. Don’t get me wrong, I am genuinely a big fan of Hamilton’s. It’s more to do with the spectacle of watching the poms deal with disappointment, following a spot of jinxing. You know what I’m talking about. Tim Henman is a prime example and you can read about it here. And then last year, which saw Hamilton win a string of races at the beginning of the season, only to lose out at the very end. Again, this was pre-empted by the “it’s in the bag” attitude given throughout the year, courtesy of their media.

But let’s take it back to the days, circa ’82. It’s Hockenheim, and it’s the famous failed overtake and resulting track-side fight between Nelson Piquet and Eliseo Salazar . Absolutely stunning!

I enjoyed Murray Walker’s commentary – “Piquet is LIVID WITH RAGE!”

I think that’s enough for now.

Unless you want to watch the juice fight between Mika and Eddie ?
